about

Our Halifax appearance was actually the low point of the tour for us, in a few ways:
we dragged ourselves into town after DAYS of hardly any sleep at all;
it was the most expensive stop as half of us ended up staying in an actual hotel (it'd been motels and wonderful folks' houses until that point, and we just couldn't get anyone to show up for us out of our friend networks in Halifax);
the venue we played couldn't really reconcile itself as either a club or a live music venue, when a workable blend of the two would have sufficed-- we ended up having to play bouncer to people that just wanted to come and eat food without paying a five dollar charge first, which hurt both band and venue in the course of the evening;
as The Mod Villains took the stage for the second time that evening, one of our tourmates arrived with a slew of their friends, but it turned out that our tour mate was actually under age (!), something that, frankly, we hadn't even bothered to ask. It was a typical George-Harrison-in-Hamburg moment, featuring a stubborn bandmate and a screaming bar staff threatening to have our friend taken away by the cops if they didn't leave immediately.
Needless to say, it frayed our nerves, and I (Myke) in particular went into a silent rage, haphazardly strumming random chords passionlessly and really quickly so we'd be done sooner. I'd wanted to just quit the show right then and there, but the band convinced me otherwise.
It was at this point that our NEW friend, Becky, whom we'd met at our Sussex performance a week previous, walked through the door-- man was she a breath of welcome air! It is unfortunate that the circumstances played out the way they did, however, as at the end of the night, we just loaded our gear out of the venue and drove to a hotel, stopping only to get some late night shawarma, Halifax-style. It was tasteless to us at that point, but helped lull us into comas.

Anyways, here is an audible account of The Welcoming! Plus, some conversation from the Victoria Park performance on P.E.I.
